Our Company History

From generation to generation, the Bass-Mollett family has carried on a tradition of quality service to the funeral industry. From its conception in 1949, the company's main goal has been to meet the special needs of funeral directors. The company has grown and progressed over the years and is still owned and operated by members of the founding family. These family members continue to strive to make Bass-Mollett a company on which funeral directors can trust and rely.

The company evolved from a funeral home business managed by Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Bass. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bass graduated from Worsham College of Embalming in Chicago. In 1919, they joined Mr. Bass' uncle in opening the Harris and Bass Funeral Home in Greenville, Illinois.

Mr. Bass purchased his uncle's interest in 1928 and operated the business at Bass Funeral Home for ten years.

In 1938, the Bass' daughter Dorothy and her husband, Sterling R. Mollett, graduated from Hohenschuh-Carpenter School of Embalming and joined the firm as the Bass-Mollett Funeral Home.

When Mr. Bass' parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary, he searched unsuccessfully for a book to commemorate the occasion. To fill this need, Mr. Bass designed and copyrighted the first golden wedding book. He marketed the book himself; and because of its popularity, expanded the line to include other anniversary books, baby books, and gifts.

The publishing branch of the business had become as time consuming as the funeral home. The funeral home business was sold, and Bass-Mollett Publishers, Inc. was founded in 1949.

The firm introduced its first funeral register book, "The Loving Tribute". The design on the book, the broken column, is still popular today.

In 1968, the company reorganized into a corporation, an the Mollett's daughter Linda and her husband, Duane Flowers joined the staff. Duane's brother Tad and his wife Diane joined the company in 1971.The latest addition is Linda's son John, is designer and webmaster for Bass-Mollett.Com.

Bass-Mollett has continued to grow throughout the years as more and more funeral supplies and accessories were introduced to the product line. Today, the publishing house is nationally known and distributes a catalog featuring over 2,500 items.

Through the generations, the loyalty of our customers has contributed to our success. As we continue to provide quality service with a personal touch, your business and friendship remain important to us. Our goal is to provide an even more complete product line to our customers.
